Lisio Foundation meets Gucci: an artistic synergy for "Cosmogonie"
The Fondazione Arte della Seta Lisio signed an exclusive partnership with Gucci for the 2022 fashion show, held in the suggestive setting of Castel del Monte.
The collection was named “Cosmogonie” (from the doctrine and myths related to the origin of the universe) by the creative director of the time, Alessandro Michele. It stood out for a narrative dense with historical, cultural, and esoteric references.
The starting point of these cosmogonies transferred into clothing is a philosophical reference from Walter Benjamin, who wrote: "It is not that what is past casts its light on what is present, or what is present its light on what is past; rather, image is that wherein what has been comes together in a flash with the now to form a constellation".
Prominent accessories included micro-bags, wooden bags, and an iconic clutch inspired by Greta Garbo, which served as the true creative core of the entire line.

The inspiration: Greta Garbo's clutch
The creative core of the entire line came from the discovery of a small archival Gucci bag that belonged to Greta Garbo.
This historical accessory sparked the inspiration. It featured a complex and refined Persian-inspired jacquard pattern, woven as a lampas fabric in a sophisticated interplay of colors.
The original fabric of the Greta Garbo Bag was already the "Polo" lampas. It was put into production by Giuseppe Lisio in the 1930s.
The pattern is inspired by a 16th-century Safavid dynasty miniature from ancient Persia, which is kept at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and bears witness to the origins and antiquity of this game. The fineness of the silk and precious yarns makes the design incredibly articulated and precise, rich in details within the characters' clothing. The symmetry, the stylization of the figures, and the sharp, brilliant color palette clearly recall the East Asian world.
The clutch is not just a bag, but a narrative woven in silk and gold, indissolubly binding Hollywood glamour, historical Florentine craftsmanship, and the magic of high fashion.
