Weaving on the shaft loom: threading and drafting
Theoretical/practical course to learn textile drafting; that is, how to read a diagram of the various components, threading, knotting and pedal set-up, and then weaving from the drawing on the loom.
course length: 12 hours | from 9 am to 1 pm
total cost: € 250,00
+ Optional: afternoon workroom
available from Monday to Wednesday from 2pm to 5pm
The cost for each afternoon is € 10,00, to be paid directly to the Didactic Secretary.
Theoretical/practical course to learn textile drafting; that is, how to read a diagram of the various components, threading, knotting and pedal set-up, and then weaving from the drawing on the loom.
The course will learn and understand:
- hand-drawn and computer-based textile notation
- how to reconstruct threading and weaving process from a fragment of finished fabric
- introduction to the various types of pattern threading for following, bird’s-eye and rose path
- an exploration of the effects achievable with pointed casting-in: herringbone, diamante, openwork, honeycomb, and boundweave
Each student will have access to a loom for samplers already setting-up with a wool or cotton warp, and will be able to practice setting up and warping during the hours of the afternoon workshop.
