Basic weaving on the shaft loom 1 level

A course for learning the basics of weaving and how to weave ‘samplers’ on pre-prepared 4-to-8 heddle looms, to manage tensioning, shrinkage and shuttles, to repair broken threads and defects in the weave, to create impeccable selvedges.

course length: 18 hours

MON-THU from 9am to 1 pm

FRI from 9am to 11am 

total cost: € 370,00 (materials and vat included)

mumber of students: 5 maximum

+ Optional:  workroom hours during the afternoon

available from Monday to Thursday from 2pm to 5pm and Friday from 11am to 1pm

The cost for each afternoon is € 10,00, to be paid directly to the Didactic Secretary. 

COURSE OBJECTIVES

A course for learning the basics of weaving and how to weave ‘samplers’ on pre-prepared 4-to-8 heddle looms, to manage tensioning, shrinkage and shuttles, to repair broken threads and defects in the weave, to create impeccable selvedges. Comparisons of the results obtained, the corresponding effects produced on industrial looms and at different reductions.

Taking advantage of the optional workroom hours, the students will have to opportunity to weave their own projects – runners or other items – on the hand-operated loom.
