Seminar | "Maria Dressed in Beauty"
"Maria Dressed in Beauty: Marian iconographies from the 13th through the 18th century"
Chair: Sara Piccolo Paci
Over the course of the centuries, the image of the Blessed Mother Mary has been interpreted and read in many ways, as has her role in the mystery of the incarnation of Christ.
Different portrayals of Mary have held different theological messages: specific, traditional, conservative or decidedly innovative and revolutionary.
This seminar introduces participants to reading of Marian iconography through analysis of Our Lady’s robes, colours, and relics.
