Lecture | "Anita Pittoni. Fashion, art and the applied arts from the Twenties to the Forties"
Chair: Paola Giuntoli
Between the late 1920s and the 1940s, Triestine artist Anita Pittoni created clothing and decorating fabrics that befittingly reflected the taste of her times. Analysis of her works – all linked by the guiding thread of ‘simplicity’ (of forms, colours, techniques) – takes us on a fascinating excursion into the art of the Ventennio.
From the resurrection of popular and folkloristic aesthetics, promoted in primis by the Monza Biennali and Triennali exhibitions; through the stylisations of Art Deco to the geometric, Futurist-Constructivist abstractions that characterised the avant-gardes’ search for a ‘national style’ in fashion and decorating.
Anita Pittoni’s works, supported by a corpus of theoretical writings, provide us, today, with testimony of the ferment in art and criticism which in those years invested every field of artistic endeavour.
