The Rossinian Diptych | Teatro della Pergola
The Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze and the Conservatorio Luigi Cherubini, in collaboration with the Fondazione Teatro della Toscana, are pleased to announce the event taking place this weekend at the Saloncino “Paolo Poli” of the Teatro della Pergola. The programme features a Rossini double bill that promises to delight audiences with two outstanding comic operas: La cambiale di matrimonio and L'occasione fa il ladro.
The first performance is scheduled for Saturday 24 June at 6:00 pm, with La cambiale di matrimonio. This comic farce, with music by Gioachino Rossini, is a lively and fresh work telling the story of a father who attempts to arrange a marriage of convenience for his daughter. The production is directed by Francesco Torrigiani, with Valentino Zangara as conductor and musical director. The production is presented by the Conservatorio Luigi Cherubini of Florence, while the concept, design, and construction of the stage sets have been entrusted to the Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze. This collaboration between different artistic disciplines promises a unique and engaging theatrical experience.
The following day, Sunday 25 June at 5:00 pm, L'occasione fa il ladro will take to the stage. This one-act comic opera, also with music by Gioachino Rossini, is a sparkling comedy centred on a series of mistaken identities. Once again, the production is directed by Francesco Torrigiani, while the Conservatorio Luigi Cherubini is responsible for its production.
The successful collaboration between the Fondazione Arte della Seta Lisio and the Conservatorio Luigi Cherubini continues. In particular, the students of the 2021–2023 Master's programme in Historical and Stage Costume Making ed.2021-2023 have designed and produced the costumes and provided tailoring services for the performances, marking the second consecutive year of their involvement in productions dedicated to two operas by Maestro Rossini:
