Fashion in fourteenth-century Siena and Tuscany
Chair: Roberta Orsi Landini
The years in which Ambrogio Lorenzetti frescoes the Sala della Pace in Siena’s Palazzo Pubblico are significant years for the transformation of fashion. The figures represented, however, have not yet perceived the winds of change that, in the following decade, would bring about a new male image and a new erotic sensibility.
Young fashion emerges, clearly distinguishing itself from that of the elderly and from that of institutional representatives, while a marked differentiation between male and female clothing becomes established.
