From the history of design and fashion to textile CAD design, from patterned fabrics to tapestry and jacquard weaving techniques: a 360-degree journey through the world of textiles, rediscovering the value of an art deeply connected to the Tuscan manufacturing tradition, a centre of excellence for textile design and production in Italy.

Organized by the Accademia di Belle Arti  in collaboration with  MUS.E  and the Fondazione Arte della Seta Lisio, the exhibition presents the artistic research of the students from the second edition of the “Textile” Master’s programme (2018/2019).

The works on display are the result of the study and research undertaken during the advanced training course offered by the Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze, through which students acquired highly qualified technical and expressive skills, enabling them to address both graphic design related to traditional textile techniques and experimental approaches connected to contemporary artistic production.

The works were created by the artists Eleonora Angrilli, Antonella D’Ippolito, Lisa Fontana, Hanna Prugger, Julia Galliez Pinto Feital Silva, and Elena Sueri.

This year, the exhibition featuring the work of our six students is part of the programme of:

“The Legacy of Women”, the festival directed by Serena Dandini and produced by Elastica and Fondazione CR Firenze. The festival aims to reinterpret the artistic and cultural heritage of Florence and of our country, bringing renewed attention to the role played over the centuries by women scientists, artists, writers, and pioneers in every field of knowledge, who have not always received the same recognition as their male colleagues.

For three days, the Tuscan capital becomes the city of women, hosting meetings, readings, guided tours, previews, and tributes to remarkable female figures who have contributed to the progress of our society and, consequently, of humanity as a whole. All of this takes place in the name of an illustrious Florentine woman: the Elettrice Palatina, namely Anna Maria Luisa de’ Medici.

This festival does not only look to the past, as challenges for women throughout the world are still numerous today. It addresses gender equality, but also and above all the rights of everyone, the fight against all forms of discrimination, the health of humanity, and, last but not least, the health of our planet.
