Art and Music at Castello Secco Suardo: Conversation Piece 4
On Sunday, 11 October at 5:00 p.m., at Castello Secco Suardo in Lurano (Bergamo), the fourth edition of Conversation Piece will take place.
For years, the Castle of Lurano has hosted meetings and lectures on topics related to art, history, and music, with a particular focus on the local area and the Secco Suardo family.
Following the Conversation Piece format, which takes its name from the genre of painting that originated in the Low Countries and became highly popular in England during the 17th and 18th centuries, the event recalls paintings depicting groups of people engaged in conversation or portrayed in scenes of domestic life.
The 2020 edition, organized in collaboration with the Fondazione Arte della Seta Lisio of Florence, will examine a curious yet fascinating archival document from the Secco Suardo family.
A Matter of Goat's Wool: from a "simple" inventory of garments and textiles, the document not only reconstructs the composition of a sixteenth-century trousseau, but also provides the basis for a wide-ranging investigation into the complexity of its lexical aspects, while confirming the unique role of the Bergamo area within the history of costume and fashion.
